I am no
stranger to art and the joy it brings to us all. I used to carry a
small sketch book with me everywhere, especially on frequent babysitting
jobs as a very young girl. That special book was put away along with other
mementos as I grew and matured through life, school, college, and finally
marriage and a family. But once I explored the basics of painting,
there was no stopping me!
My adventure
in
tole painting
began......
In 1991 my mom attempted
to teach me how to 'float' the details onto a cute little wooden cow
cut-out. I was very nervous and my hands were shaking
uncontrollably! We were enjoying the outdoors as we painted but I
became so frustrated with that 'cute little cow' that I wanted to throw it
across the yard. I put it away for awhile and after much patience
and practice, I was finally able to finish it. It was no work of
art, but it was a start. And I was hooked!
So
I painted and painted and painted! I sought out my favorite artists
and took as many classes and seminars as I could from them. I learned
so much! After a couple of years I decided to use my sketching abilities
and create my own little characters. As you browse my site, you will
find that my style definitely leans toward the whimsical. In 1994,
I presented my first collection at a tole painting convention in Logan, Utah.
I was immediately humbled and inspired by the many painters that bought my
pattern packets and wanted more. As well as being a published
artist/author, I have owned and operated my own consignment boutique,
taught many classes and seminars in various shops, stores and chapters,
participated successfully in numerous trade shows, and owned and operated
a wood cutting business. So my little adventure produced many pattern packets and
a beautiful book!
And now my
adventure moves on to other avenues! Watch for my new whimsical fine art
prints that will be sold exclusively here!
